Press manufacturers like MAN Roland recognize the critical importance of dampener transfer rolls and the value of ceramic materials in achieving the thinnest manageable dampener solution film.  MAN Roland’s ceramic rolls contain invisible micro pores to achieve this ultra thin film by means of pure physical properties of the roller surface.

Those micro pores are natural receptacles for all the contaminants feeding back from the plate cylinder including oils, ink, and silicone.  The roll manufacturer, faced with complaints from printers using traditional blanket and ink form roll cleaners has developed a special alkaline product which cleans the surface and pores of the ceramic rolls and doesn’t threaten to corrode press parts or soften and swell ink rolls.

Using blanket and ink form roll cleaners will clean the ceramic surface and the roll will appear to be clean.  But, so long as the micro pores aren’t clean, the dampener will fail to operate at peak performance.
