High speed pinless folder

Due to the loss of a major printing contract a variable cut-off, pinless, high-speed combination folder is now available at a small fraction of it's replacement cost.  This folder has operated little more than one year and is available with a "new folder" warranty.
This pinless, two stream, double former, single collect and double collect Foldex Viking folder offers folding solutions to several problems.

  1. The need for a pinless combination folder to add to a gapless, wide-web press equipped with only a two-former folder.

  2. The need for special fold configurations such as the requirement for cutting and folding at one third of the printing cylinder circumference in addition to conventional cutting and folding at one half of the cylinder circumference.

  3. The need for two stream delivery to break up large impositions into smaller signatures.

  4. The need for sectioned signatures available from the double formers.

  5. The need for a combination folder for a "short" cut-off press such as a 22.1/4" or 21 3/4" or 21 1/2" press for which combination folders may not be available.

This folder is in excellent condition with new state-of-the-art servo drives.  It has OEM support and can be purchased "as is" or turn-key installed.

Viking folder description and history

3P is pleased to offer the Viking Folder described below with updated controls.

This particular machine was originally installed in 1999 on a Baker-Perkins two web G-16 press.  It was successfully commissioned and started up, but run only briefly before the prior owner mothballed the folder due to lack of work. 

The Viking Folder is a wide range variable cut off, pinless, jaw folder rated at 90,000 copies per hour straight run operation.  The cut off range for the folder is from 22.83” max to 14.00” minimum.  For some applications, the folder can be used as a dual size machine, as an example on 42 inch repeat presses, the folder can alternate between 21 and 14 inch cut off sizes.  The folder is double width and can deliver two steams of products. 

The Folder offered includes the Viking Double Parallel Option which provides high speed performance with Tab or DP products, and change over between production modes in a matter of a couple of minutes.  There are provisions for stitching at the Collect Cylinder, and at the 1st Jaw Cylinder. 

The superstructure of the folder includes two commercial steep angle formers, each with skip slitter provisions for timed driven perfs for multiple products.  In addition to the formers, there are by-pass lead provisions for up to four double width ribbons, which can be used instead of, or together with the formers. 

There are provisions only for quarterfolder, which can be added.

The folder is is set up for independent drive with provisions for shaftless driven upper folder rollers for gain control at the former and at the nips.  The folder will be outfitted with new controls and motors, either Siemens or Indramat can be specified depending on customer preference.
